Founded in 1883, Alpina, famous for its signature red triangle, is a fine watchmaking manufacture based in Geneva, Switzerland with a history spanning more than 135 years. 

A true pioneer of the Swiss watchmaking industry, Alpina has been the source of numerous patents and innovative calibers. Alpina invented the concept of the Swiss sports watch as we know it today, with the creation of its legendary Alpina 4 in 1938.

Inspired by Alpina’s iconic 1970s design, we proudly present the Startimer Pilot Heritage GMT, reference AL-555XS4H6, dating from 2016.

This remarkable timepiece is a self-winding watch powered by the in-house modified Alpina automatic GMT movement, caliber AL-555, featuring 26 jewels. With this movement, the wearer can track three different time zones via an independently adjustable local hour hand, a true GMT hand, and a 24-hour rotating bezel. The watch also features a sweep second hand, a date indicator, and a 38-hour power reserve. Swiss-made.

Embodying a classic vintage design, the watch is housed in a 42mm barrel-shaped stainless steel case. The screw-down case back is adorned with Alpina’s signature mountain and airplane logo, representing the Startimer series. The watch also includes an internal rotating 24-hour bezel and is water-resistant to 100m (10ATM). Two crowns are featured: the first at 4 o’clock, signed with the Alpina logo, handles the winding and time-setting functions, while the second at 2 o’clock is used to rotate the internal GMT bezel. The watch is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

The sunburst "dark gray" dial its complemented by applied silver indexes and SLN treatment for visibility. The dial is further enhanced by a beautiful silver internal GMT bezel, polished white and black hour and minute hands, and a striking orange second hand. The central GMT disc also stands out. A date window is located at the 3 o’clock position, with the Alpina name prominently displayed at the top of the dial.

This timepiece comes with a brown leather two-piece strap for a classic look and also includes a gray rubber two-piece strap for added versatility.

This beautiful vintage-retro styling wristwatch is in very good condition! Runs very well and keep great time!

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.  

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust the lighting, when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
